Following a gluten-free diet can feel really restrictive. And gluten isn’t just in wheat – it’s in other types of grains, too, like rye and barley. Then there’s corn gluten. Which is okay for some gluten-intolerant people, but not others. Then comes oats. If you’re not sensitive to corn gluten, you should be able to eat products containing corn, right? And oats. There’s no gluten naturally occurring in oats. So those are both safe choices, right? Sadly not. Corn or oats grown in close proximity to gluten-containing crops like wheat, barley, or rye, can actually pick up gluten from those crops, becoming unsuitable for consumption by people with gluten sensitivity. And, of course, oats and corn are both commonly processed in factories that also process gluten-containing crops and so suffer from cross-contamination. And the most surprising and unlikely food items contain gluten – so you have to check everything. Even though we make as much as we can from scratch, it’s still easy to get stuck in a food rut and stick to a handful of meals and snacks that you make over and over when you’re on a gluten-free diet. To help you keep your diet varied and interesting, I’ve compiled a roundup of some awesome gluten-free recipes, including a few of my own recipes. I’ve broken them down into main courses, breads, and desserts so you can easily find something that tickles your taste buds. I’m certain you’ll find some family favorites that will become your new go-tos among these gluten-free recipes.
